The population of Pune is estimated to be 43 lacs. The number of vehicles registered in the city is also around 43 lacs! This includes 32.5 lacs motorcycles, 7.5 lacs four-wheelers and 3.5 lacs taxis,auto rickshaws and others.
In fact, in 2018 the number of vehicles (36 lacs) was more than the population of the city (35 lacs). This had happened for the first time for any urban area in the country.
Pune' RTO usually achieves revenues more than their targets in every segment.
The harsh truth is that multi-layered flyovers, adding up new lanes cannot help ease the traffic until and unless we have a proper ring road and well functioning public transport services.
